Liputan6.com, Bogor - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok has just signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and Technology regarding the cooperation on cow breeding.

Governor Ahok claimed, the cooperation built in this sector has been the agenda of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo himself. He is trying to establish furtherance of the program initiated by the President, as he thinks that this sector could be very profitable and ought to be taken into account.

It is very profitable in a way that, the cow breeding will make Indonesia independent someday without having to rely on imported livestock from neighbouring countries.

"I just want to make a furtherance of the already-planned agenda of President Jokowi. He had an idea about Jakarta working with other regions to breed cows," Governor Ahok said in Bogor, West Java on Friday (27/3/2015).

The Ministry of Higher Education and Research and Technology has been working closely with PT. Karya Anugerah Rumpin (KAR) to perform research on the genetic improvement of the cattle and its widespread.

The result will be used to breed cows belonging to PD Dharma Jaya in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).

Governor Ahok is convinced, Jakarta has enough funds to support the development of local dairy farms. The only challenges that thus far halt the process to do so is the lack of land available for such program. Jakarta is filled with buildings and thus it is quite impossible for such livestock to be preserved here.

"Jakarta government has money, lIPI has the right technologu and competent individuals to perform the research, why not do it in a business to business basis? We will coordinate with regional so that their dairy farm industry would be better improved," he continued.

This cooperation also marks Governor Ahok's commitment to give PT Dharma Jaya the sufficient amount of funds to develop the dairy farms. (Akp/Tnt)
