Liputan6.com, Jakarta The nation is just recently overwhelmed by the shocking news of many of Indonesian politicians resorting to the purchase of a fake diploma or academic certificate in trying to cover their actual incompetence.
Indonesian Private Universities Association (APTISI) reveals a number of reasons as to why a number of people decided to buy fake ones instead of following the academic undertakings like other students.

Head of APTISI, Edy Sunadi Hamid says that one of the driving factor is the fact that many seek for a promotion in their company or institution and one of the requirements for them is to have a specific degree of education.
Those who view themselves as too busy or incapable of doing another degree resort to buying a fake certificate to indicate their 'fake' competence. Such desperate measures apparently worked for some of leading figures in the government.
"There is a new mechanism suggesting promotion to be determined by the evidence of academic certificates, not by actual knowledge, competencies and skills," Sunadi Hamid informed, Thursday (4/6/2015).
"Indonesian people is very much dictated by the culture of ‘symbol’ not by what is substantive. So academic certificate for them, symbolizes their achievement, not the process of getting one," he continued.
But surely the blame is not all on the ones buying it, but also those who facilitate such illegal and demoralizing ambition. (Akp/Ein)
