Australia-RI 2+2 Foreign and Defence Meeting due to Take Place

Australia and Indonesia Foreign Ministers and Defence Generals will meet on Monday to discuss deepened tie.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and retired Defense General Ryamizard Ryacudu are scheduled to be in Sydney, Australia on Monday 21 December 2015 to conduct the third Australia-Indonesia Foreign and Defence Ministers 2+2 Dialogue together with Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop and Minister for Defence Marise Payne.

“We look forward to welcoming the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ibu Retno Marsudi, and the Minister for Defence, General (retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu, for broad-ranging discussions on strengthening our bilateral relationship,” as stated in the press release issued by the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.

The relationship between Indonesia and Australia is deemed a constructive one with each nation playing a vitally important role to the other. Ties in economy, security, maritime, cyber and counter- terrorism are greatly enhanced as time progresses.

“We co- chair the regional Bali Process on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime,” the press statement continues.

With intensified Ministerial-level visits between both countries in the past few months and with the two growing significant in each other’s trade and investment ventures, more concentration of the 2+2 dialogue will be placed particularly upon the maintaining and enhancing of enduring cooperation through ‘regional and global fora’, with platforms such as G20, the East Asia Summit, ASEAN, Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus and the Indian Ocean Rim Association used as facilitation to promote global and regional growth and stability.
