SBY Receives Award from South Korean President

Liputan6.com, Seoul As he is not done yet with exerting leadership, Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is currently in South Korea enjoying his new role as the Assembly President of The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). He was awarded  ‘The Grand Order of Mugunghwa’ by South Korea. The award was handed over directly by South Korean President Park Geun Hye to SBY in Seoul, South Korea.

"President of The Republic of Korea, Park Geun Hye handed me the highest award medal ‘Grand Order of Mugunghwa’,” tweeted the Indonesian former President on his twitter account, as quoted by Liputan6.com, Friday (11/21/2014).

The Grand Order of Mugunghwa is considered as the most prestigious award given by The South Korean government. This award is only given to individuals who have made significant contributions to South Korea, including those who succeed in improving the bilateral relations between South Korea and other countries.

After he came down from his 10 years long Indonesian Presidential seat, SBY continues his endeavour, as he became the Assembly President of The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). This worldwide organization aims to enhance the spirit of global green growth in facing the era of global warming, a paradigm that is largely characterized by a balance between economic growth and sustainable environment, especially in developing countries. GGGI Headquarter is located in Seoul, South Korea.

On November 18 2014, SBY for the first time led the GGGI Conference in Seoul, South Korea. South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs He Yun Byung Se attended the conference as well as other GGGI representatives from around the world. They expressed their belief in SBY in trying to put forward all the promising programs they have. They put faith on SBY as they expect him to be able to give a credible leadership initiative and carry GGGI into a more prominent level.

In the meeting, SBY informs how GGGI has an exceptionally unique approach to strengthen the commitment and cooperation of various state and non- state actors as well as experts in green growth strategy.

“GGGI can not do everything, but it can do a lot of things. Value added from GGGI is part of a global effort in creating an environmentally sustainable growth and progressive development in this particular area,” Yudhoyono shared as he stood in front of the audience in the GGGI Conference, South Korea.
