Bambang Widjojanto to Temporarily Resign from His Post in KPK

Bareskrim unwavering determination to detain Bamabng caused the Deputy Chairman of KPK to reconsider his position in the institution.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta After being detained by the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), the Deputy Chairman of Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bambang Widjojanto decides to resign from his post. He was named as suspect shortly after a report claiming his involvement in the 2010 regional election lawsuit at the Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan. He was accused of giving a false statement or request another party to do so to the constitutional court in regards to the election at Kotawaringin Barat back in 2010.

"As soon as I arrive at the office, I immediately went to write the proposal to resign temporarily from my post," Bambang Widjojanto said during a press conference at the KPK building, Jakarta, Monday (26/01/2015).

Bambang said, one of the reasons for his temporary resignation is due to the fact that Bareskrim has named him as suspect.

"I wrote this because I am being summoned and under the investigation of Bareskrim. I have been qualified as a suspect," Bambang informed.

Despite the accusation, Bambang is convinced that he has not done anything wrong or that the alleged ‘actions’ of giving a false statement are not yet justified.

"So I am sure, that all the accusations are made up. It's a fiction. I know that," Bambang shared.

The letter containing his proposal for resignation has been given to other leaders of KPK. The leaders of KPK, Abraham Samad, Zulkarnaen and Adnan Pandu Praja are now holding a meeting to discuss whether or not it is best for Bambang to resign from his post.

"Let them decide what to do next. Because, I am only the commissioner, I leave it to them to decide," Bambang concluded. (Akp/Riz)
