Papua New Guinean soldiers have tried to make their way into the Indonesian region through Merauke.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Following reports claiming Papua New Guinean soldiers illegal entrance into the area of Yakyu situated in Merauke in the early weeks of August, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) immediately established security posts around the area.

TNI soldiers are assigned to become invigilators at these posts where they will continually monitor anyone who comes into this border.

"The establishment of posts in Yakyu village is done as a repercussion to what had happened," TNI Officer in Papua New Guinea, Supartodi informed, Friday (14/8/2015).

Supartodi said that he previously received a report, suggesting the evidence of one group of Papua New Guinean soldier attempted to enter the Indonesian region illegally through Yakyu village on August 7 2015.

These Papua New Guinean soldiers made their way in and gave the people residing in the area basic needs such as raw food.

"Local people have already informed to us regarding the presence of non-Indonesian in the area," Supartodi further informed.

Yakyu village is situated 1,3 kilometers off Merauke-Papua New Guinean border. It is not a surprise to see Papua New Guinean soldiers trying to come into Indonesia via this route, as the population is relatively small and easy to buy in terms of their trust. (Akp/Tnt)
