From Jakarta to Africa's Burkina Faso: Terrorist Attacks Continue

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Just one day after the terror attacks in Jalan MH Thamrin in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on Thursday 14 January 2016, a luxurious hotel in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou within West African region was viciously attacked by gunmen from Al Qaeda’s affiliate Islamic Maghreb.

The 15-hour long terror attack by four jihadists, which included hostage, bombing and shooting, led to the hitherto totaled death toll of 28 people originating from 18 different countries and dozens of casualty. The victims were initially trying to enjoy their Friday night before it turned to be a long-enduring ‘fright’ night that ended the following day.

Citing from BBC, a joint operation of local and French security forces confirmed information regarding the siege conducted at Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou and another hotel as well as coffee shop situated nearby.

It has been reported that some of the attackers were women and they too died in the exasperating assaults, allowing for special forces to regain control in the initially annexed locations.

According to NYTimes, witnesses shared their stories as to how the situation unfolds from the very beginning. Many claim that gunmen triggered one explosion outside of Splendid hotel which automatically caused for vehicles parked outside to be severely flamed.

Assailants took that moment of opportunity to violently march into and around the venues where foreigners were evidently present on the evening of January 15 2016.

Terrorists reportedly managed to hold hostage hundreds as they stormed into the building and began shooting people, most especially foreigners, with their “brandishing AK-47 assault rifles”, as cited in Dailymail.co.uk.

Surprisingly, the group which carried out those violent assaults is also responsible for the attack in Radisson hotel of Mali’s capital last year.

The long battle with the extremist group’s representatives unfortunately cost lives of many with several countries whose citizens were victimized has reportedly declared their list of people.

As conveyed in RussiaToday, the wife and 5-year-old daughter of besieged Italian coffee shop owner nearby Splendid hotel, 67-year-old Dutch national who was there on volunteer work, 3 adults and one 9-year-old Ukrainians, 2 Swiss citizens, 1 American, Russian, Chinese nationals were among the victims of deadly siege orchestrated and conducted by Islamic Maghreb of Al Qaeda.

In accordance to the Telegraph.co.uk, the perpetrators were spurred by one mission and its principality that night was “revenge against France and the disbelieving West”, as translated by SITE Intelligence group.
