Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Indonesian Intelligence Agency, led by its Chief Sutiyoso, has previously requested for its institution to be given additional privilege of capturing and detaining alleged terrorists.
Such request however, was immediately rejected by a member of the House of Representatives as it has been viewed as acts of violation of human rights.
“Our intelligence agency has always stayed true to its secretive working method. It would be unfair for people to become the subject of an arrest that is done in a discreet manner. That is the same as impinging on others’ right and violating them,” member of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) TB Hasanuddin said, Wednesday (20/1/2016).

TB Hasanuddin proposes another initiative that is for the Indonesian Intelligence Agency, together with the police force, to form a unit of combined individuals from both forces where intelligence will be guided by its chief principality of doing solely what it has to do such as gathering information, analyzing, decrypting codes and locating the potential assailants, whereas police force within that unit will be yielded the responsibility of capturing and detaining these individuals.
“Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN) needs to synergize with the police force (POLRI). They ought to form a special unit under BIN’s investigative authority but with police force predominantly used for its conduction,” TB Hasanuddin explained.
TB Hasanuddin explains further that in the creation of that particular unit, there is no need for the government to establish any notable changes on the nation’s acts or laws on its intelligence. The primary focus here is for both forces to work together in one synchronized and mutually supportive unit.
“There is no need for any structural changes or anything parituclarly in the acts that govern the workings of intelligence and the police force. The question is, do they want to work together?,” TB Hasanuddin continued.
Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla previously informed that it is particularly difficult to accept such request made by intelligence agency as laws have all been enacted and implemented within the national Acts.
However, he claims to promise future consideration and dialogues over it especially with the recent terror attacks in Sarinah, Thamrin Jakarta on January 14 2016.
“We will talk it over,” Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated on Tuesday 19 January 2016.
