Government Launches School Bus for Students with Disability

So far, the service is available for those with visual impairment problem.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Jakarta government’s transportation agency has recently coordinated with school transportation management unit to launch a special bus for students with disability. Should the launching of it become a successful one, then it would be the nation’s first sincere dedication to help provide students with disability the proper mode of transportation.

“The launching of this school bus program is especially dedicated for students with disability. We do not just want to serve students in private and national schools, we also want to give the best service to the students who truly need such service especially the kids with disabilities who come from orphanage home,” Head of Cahaya Batin Carehouse of the Visually Impaired Mohammad Insaf stated amid launching speech at Cawang, East Jakarta, Tuesday (2/2/2016).

The bus will serve these students as it picks them up at the visually impaired carehouse and drop them off at school.

The bus will be readied from as early as 05.30 am at the visually-impaired carehouse and will operate until 16.00 pm. That is when the school is over and the proper time to take the students with disability home to their caretakers.

According to Insaf, the bus contains 24 seats. It has been reported that there are only 22 students from the carehouse and therefore each will be given the privilege of havin their own comfortable seat on their way to school.

“So, no one would be left standing up, every student has his/her own seat in the bus,” Insaf explained.

Insaf further explains that driver will be accompanied by a co-driver and will be reminded continually as to how they have to drive at careful speed as they are taking students with disability on board and therefore they need to be treated in a special way.

“The bus driver, together with the co-driver will help each and every one of these students get in and get out of the bus,” he stated further.

It is likely, according to Insaf, that in the future to come there will be the launching of additional buses to help serve students in need from other carehouses within Jakarta region.
