Indonesian Richest Police Arrested for Allegedly Selling Drugs

The Chief of Regional Police of East Java is arrested in drug case.

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - The Chief of Indonesian Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, announced that one of the police chiefs in Indonesia has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs. The person is the Chief of Indonesian Regional Police (Kapolda) of East Java Province, Teddy Minahasa.

Teddy Minahasa was only appointed to that position this week. He is regarded as the richest Indonesian police.

Listyo Sigit Prabowo said he ordered the police division of Profession and Security (Propam) to get Teddy Minahasa for questioning. He allegedly sold the drugs which were confiscated by the police.

"There is an allegation of the involvement of Inspector General TM, yesterday I asked the Head Division of Propam to take and question him," said Listyo during a press conference at Police HQ in Jakarta, Friday (14/10/2022).

Listyo said the Jakarta Metropolitan Police was investigating a drug network that recently came from public report. Three civilians were arrested. The police then found an indication that this case was related to a police official in Bukittinggi, West Sumatera. Teddy Minahasa was previously working there as the police chief.

Previously, a member of parliament Ahmad Sahroni broke this news to the media. Sahroni is a member of the Commission III in the parliament which deals with laws and police.

"Allegedly because of drugs," said Ahmad Sahroni to Liputan6.com, although he had not disclosed further details about the case.

Teddy Minahasa was appointed to be the Chief of Police in East Java Province after the Kanjuruhan tragedy in Malang, East Java. More than 130 people died in that incident, resulting in the dismissal of Inspector General Nico Afinta as the police chief in the province.

In the wake of the double controversies, this Friday the police has mutated the positions of various officials. Inspector General Tony Harmanto has been appointed to take Teddy's position in East Java. Previously, Tony Harmanto was the Chief of Police in South Sumatera Province.
