Close Relationship Between Indonesia and Morocco, the Dark Horse of World Cup 2022

Morocco sets a record as the first African and Arab country to reach the tournament’s semi-final. It turned out that Indonesia has a close relationship with this beautiful country.

Liputan6.com, Doha - Morocco has written a new history in the FIFA World Cup 2022 after defeating Spain and Portugal in the 2022 World Cup. The Atlas Lions of Morocco set a new record as the first African and Arab country to reach the tournament’s semi-final.

Currently, Morocco becomes the only African representative at the World Cup held in Qatar. It is not excessive to call Morocco as the "King of Africa" at this year's World Cup, especially after they beat Cristiano Ronaldo's team.

Regarding the relationship with Morocco, Indonesia has a special relationship with the country where the Atlas Mountains stretch.

There is a street in Jakarta named Casablanca Street which is inspired by the city of Casablanca in Morocco.

Based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia's website, Monday (12/12/2022), the first president of Indonesia, Soekarno, was the first head of state who visited Morocco. This president, often called Bung Karno, visited Morocco on March 2, 1960.

"The visit received warm greetings from King Mohammed V and the people of Morocco. President Sukarno is considered the Leader of the Revolutionary world who raised the spirit of independence of the Asian-African nations," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted from the website.

However, the Indonesian Embassy in Rabat was closed due to domestic problems in Indonesia. To save up, the Indonesian Embassy in Rabat finally closed in 1967 and opened again in 1985.

Regarding trade relationship, coffee became Indonesia's most valuable export product to Morocco, followed by electrical and electronic products, crude oil, and textiles.

On the other hand, the imported products from Morocco are dominated by phosphate and phosphoric acid products, agricultural products, and medical equipment.
