21-Year-Old Father Killed Stepson to Receive Donations

Liputan6.com, Tangerang - A 21-year-old father, NH, murdered his stepson in order to get donations from his neighbours. NH killed the boy at a paddy field in Tamiang Village, Tangerang Regency.

The killing happened last Friday when NH was left alone with his eight-year-old son, MIP.

The family apparently came from a poor background. Before the killing, the boy was defecating on a river alongside his mother. However, the mother returned home first because her younger child was crying.

"The victim's mother went home immediately and left the victim alone by that river. Then the perpetrator approached the victim to accompany him defecating at paddy field's margin," said Police Commissioner of Tangerang Resort City Police Arief Nazaruddin on Tuesday.

But the father strangled his own son with both hands until the boy died.

"And abandoned his lifeless son," Arief Nazaruddin added.

Police questioned nine people, and they arrested the father. Arief noted that the motive of murder was economic.

"Economic factor. Killing to get rice," Arief stated. NH was not actually jobless. He had a job at an unnamed company in Balaraja district, but he still wanted to get donations.

In Indonesia it is customary to donate, usually money, to a grieving family.

Arief said that NH is now facing 15 years behind prison bars for murdering his son.
