Apa Itu Recount Text? Simak Cara Menulis dan Contohnya

Recount text adalah teks yang memiliki ciri khas tersendiri. Ciri-ciri inilah yang membedakan recount text dengan teks bahasa Inggris lainnya. Berikut ciri-ciri recount text:

- Penggunaan past tense

- Fokus pada orang atau peristiwa

- Penggunaan konjungsi dan penghubung waktu. Contoh: first, second, then, and, or, after that, dan lain sebagainya.

- Penggunaan kata kerja tindakan (action verbs). Contohnya: spent, went, brought, took, cook, dan lain-lain.

- Menggunakan adverb dan adverbial phrase untuk mengungkapkan waktu, tempat dan cara. Contoh: last month, last week, lately, in Jakarta, yesterday, dan lain sebagainya.

Dalam proses memahami cara menulis recount text, perhatikan dari struturnya. Bagaimana?

1. Orientation

Dalam recount text adalah pada bagian awal memuat orientasi. Umumnya bagian orientasi menceritakan latar belakang, tentang siapa yang terlibat, di mana peristiwa atau kejadian berlangsung, kapan itu terjadi. Bagian ini kunci dari pembaca bisa mengenali cerita sebelum masuk dalam bagian paling menariknya.

2. Events

Kemudian ada bagian kedua dari recount text, yakni events. Bagian events adalah penulisannya merincikan tentang how (bagaimana) dan why (mengapa) cerita dalam recount text terjadi. Events atau peristiwa diceritakan secara kronologis atau berurutan. Ini ditujukan agar pembaca lebih mudah lagi memahami alur cerita dan inti dari kisah yang diceritakan atau disampaikan oleh penulis recount text.

3. Reorientation

Terakhir, ada reorientation dari recount text. Pada bagian ini menjadi penutup cerita. Umumnya pada bagian ini, penulis akan memberikan komentar atas pengalaman yang diceritakannya. Bisa pula pada bagian recount text ini memuat tentang kesimpulan cerita dan nilai-nilai yang seharusnya dijadikan pelajaran oleh pembaca.

1. Personal Recount Text

Personal Recount Text adalah jenis teks yang menceritakan tentang pengalaman pribadi penulis. Teks ini sering ditulis untuk menceritakan pengalaman liburan, menonton konser, bertemu seseorang, atau mengalami suatu kejadian. Jenis recount text ini biasanya menggunakan sudut pandang penulisan orang pertama.

2. Imaginative Recount Text

Imaginative Recount Text adalah jenis recount yang menceritakan kisah imajinatif. Cerita dalam imaginative recount text merupakan cerita yang tidak benar-benar terjadi. Biasanya berupa tokoh khayalan yang tidak benar-benar ada.

3. Factual Recount Text

Factual recount text adalah jenis teks yang menceritakan peristiwa yang benar-benar terjadi. Jenis teks ini biasa ditemukan pada laporan kepolisian atau percobaan sains. Kejadian dari factual recount merupakan peristiwa yang sudah terjadi dan diceritakan secara kronologis.

4. Historical Recount Text

Historical recount text adalah teks recount yang menceritakan kisah historis atau beresejarah. Teks ini bisa digunakan untuk menceritakan tentang sejarah seseorang, tempat, atau peristiwa tertetu.

1. Factual Recount Text

The man who pushed an old woman down a bus along Upper Thomson Road has been charged in court. Twenty-five-year-old Ong Kok Hao is accused of hurting 76-year-old Hwang Li Lian Nee Lye on bus service number 167 at about 3pm on June 5 this year.

Ong is said to have used his right hand to push the old woman on her back, causing her to fall on the steps of the bus. The incident was captured in a two-minute video and uploaded on YouTube. The video shows Ong suddenly flying into a rage at Madam Hwang for pressing the bell at the last-minute along Upper Thomson Road.

A shouting match then ensued and during the heated spat, Ong threatened to slap the woman, before pushing her down the bus. Ong’s lawyer Eddie Koh will be making representations to the court. The case will next be mentioned in December.

2. Historical Recount Text

On April 15, 1912, Titanic, one of the British largest and luxurious liners, sank into the North Atlantic Ocean which about 400 miles south of Newfoundland, Canada.

That giant ship which carried 2,200 passengers and crews had struck an iceberg. Two and a half hour later the ship sank into the deep North Atlantic Ocean at 2:20 a.m. From that tragedy, more than 1,500 people went down in the sinking ship. Some of them froze to death in the icy North Atlantic water and around 700 people (high class woman and children) survived.

Unfortunately that giant luxurious ship was not equipped with much more lifeboats and good emergency procedures so that the victims of that tragedy were more than the half passengers and crews.

That tragedy became popular again some years later after James Cameron directed a movie entitled Titanic in 1997. The movie that was inspired by the tragedy of the sinking titanic was a fiction story about the members of different social class who meet in that ship and fallen in love. It was the best movie at that year and still remembered by a lot of people around the world until now.

3. Personal Recount Text

Last week was the first day I came late to school. I had never came late to school before.

I was staying up late until 2 am which was very unusual for me. I set my alarm to 5 am. I woke up at 7 am and I did not hear my alarm rang. It turned out that my alarm was broken. I rushed to bathroom and changed to my school uniform. I ran to my school. When I arrived, I was punished for being late.

After school I bought two new alarms to prevent this happen again

4. Imaginative Recount Text

Being a princess is never an easy task. That also applied for Princess Adelle. Her day was never easy.

It was the first day of 2017 and Princess Adelle was very tired because she was up all night, attending The New Year’s Eve event in the Royal Palace. She woke up at 6 a.m. She should be ready before 8 a.m., so she washed herself and put on the dress that had been prepared for her by her assistant. After that, she had breakfast with the member of the royal family. At 9 a.m., she went to a charity event for the orphans held by several social institutions of the country.

After lunch, she continued her schedule to attend the inauguration of a new public school near the palace. She arrived back at the palace at 3 p.m. and attended her riding class with her instructor. She finished her riding class at 6 p.m. and prepared herself for dinner with the member of the royal family. She finally went back to her room at 8 p.m. She threw herself in bed immediatelybecause she felt really tired and wanted to take a rest so badly.

One day felt so long for Princess Adelle and it was only one sample of her schedules for a day. Sometimes, the schedules were even tighter than this.
