Walk The Moon, Band Indie Rock Paling Populer di Dunia Saat Ini

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Nama Walk The Moon sedang mencuri perhatian kalangan anak muda belakangan ini. Dengan Shut Up And Dance, sebuah lagu indie rock yang banyak terpengaruh nuansa pop 80-an, band yang berasal dari Cincinnati, Ohio, Amerika Serikat ini bila merujuk pada tangga lagu Billboard Hot 100, menempati urutan keempat, mereka adalah band rock dengan posisi tertinggi saat ini alias paling populer di dunia.

Siapakah Walk The Moon? Walk The Moon bukan nama baru di industri musik. Mereka telah terbentuk sejak 2008 lalu. Nama Walk The Moon sendiri berasal dari judul lagu lama The Police, Walking The Moon.

Band ini sempat mengalami bongkar pasang personel sebelum akhirnya mantap dengan formasi terakhir Nicholas Petricca, Kevin Ray, Sean Waugman, dan Eli Maiman. Mereka merilis album perdananya I Want! I Want! secara independen November 2010 lalu. Lagu andalan mereka Anna Sun cukup mendapat perhatian di berbagai radio rock alternatif di Amerika saat itu.

Pada Juni 2012 Walk The Moon mendapatkan kontrak rekaman major label pertama mereka dengan RCA Records dan merilis album debut self-titled.

Namun nama Walk The Moon baru benar-benar dikenal oleh khalayak banyak akhir-akhir ini ketika Shut Up And Dance rilis. Lagu ini merupakan lagu andalan dari album ketiga mereka Talking Is Hard. Shut Up And Dance sendiri merupakan lagu indie rock yang sangat ngepop dan sekilas terdengar seperti gabungan antara The Killers dengan One Direction. Mungkin kurang ngerock untuk banyak orang, namun musik yang mereka usung cukup pantas untuk diperhitungkan ditengah gempuran EDM saat ini. Sudah dengar?
